In late 2000, after 6 years of solid business growth, Netropole performed a business audit to take stock in how we were doing as a business - what we were doing right and what we could do better. One of the most significant results of this soul-searching was the determination that we needed a better way to manage our own infrastructure and systems.

Before coming to this conclusion, Netropole had managed IT infrastructure by traditional means - by adding additional staff to support our growth. Not only was that extremely costly, but it was inefficient because the tools and methods that we were using had high overhead - they required too much of our engineer's time to just check up on each device to keep things running.

Dave's Research Pays Off...

We knew that there were a bunch of network management solutions out there, but most of them had a design problem - they were not designed to provide the kind of flexibility, scalability, and reporting that we needed to manage our in-house data center as well as our co-located systems that are housed off-premises.

After months of research - installing, configuring, and testing solutions, Dave Johnson, Netropole's President and founder, came across the solution that met and exceeded our immediate and long-term needs. This solution allowed Netropole to reduce head count and exceed the Quality of Service (QOS) commitment that Netropole management had established.

Paydirt and the Ability to take Netropole to the Next Level as a IT Support Provider

Dave felt that he had his pay dirt once the solution was in place - not only were we able to reduce head count, but we had the tools in place that would allow us to add lines of business that were previously off-limits to us. For the first time, we could provide 24X7 proactive monitoring and management of not only our 40+ servers, but could provide the same service to our clients as well.

Would We Use It If It Didn't Work?

Of course not. Netropole provides the same Managed Network Services solution that we use internally to our clients for considerably less than what in-house IT support would cost. Plus, when you factor in that the systems are being monitored around the clock (as opposed to being supported just 8 – 5) the value is even greater.  This level of service has traditionally only been available to Fortune 500 companies – but because we can spread the cost of the advanced tools we use across many organizations, we can provide it at rates that make sense for small businesses.
